Small Business Spotlight - Hem & Her

Hem & Her is an Atlanta-based wardrobe consulting company owned by sisters Helen Stewart and Leslie Moye. Both women have loved fashion from an early age and recently decided to start their own styling business to help other women feel the same sense of excitement when getting dressed each day.

Hem & Her offers a wide range of services, including closet organization, personal shopping, and packing for a trip. One of the most popular options is “shopping” a client’s own closet where Helen and Leslie create outfits from what you already own and take pictures for reference.

Before launching in the fall of 2018, Hem & Her asked Pitch Partners to help design a website and create some back-office business tools to make day-to-day operations easier. As we near the one-year anniversary, we decided to sit down with Helen & Leslie and ask them a few questions about their first year in business.

Q: Why did you decide to start Hem & Her?

A: We both have always enjoyed the art of putting outfits together. We believe personal style plays a huge role in self-confidence and wanted to help others strengthen that relationship. The timing was right in our personal lives to start such a business.

Q: What do you love about owning your own business?

A: We can make our own hours and have control over what we do.

Q: What has been the biggest challenge about owning your own business?

A: Sometimes it’s difficult not having a set schedule where we know what to expect each day. And keeping up with social media is often daunting.

Q: Looking back, what (if anything) would you do differently?

A: We would have set up a more structured approach, creating space in our personal schedule for setting goals and thinking about the direction of the business.

Q: What advice would you give other entrepreneurs?

A: Make a list of goals and a timeline for reaching them.

Q: What are three fashion trends you are excited about this fall?

A: Oversized blazers, midi dresses, and cardigans. Now let's just hope the weather cooperates!

Hem & Her is full of great fashion tips and advice. Be sure to follow them on their socials:
